Asterix & Obelix XXL (Asterix and Obelix XXL in Spanish) is an action-adventure video game released in November 2003 for the PlayStation 2 in Europe, and in June 2004 for the Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance and PC platforms, as well as a version released in the United States only for the PlayStation 2, renamed Asterix & Obelix: Kick Buttix. It was developed by the company Étranges Libellules and published by Atari. The game's plot and design are based on the Asterix and Obelix comic series by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.1

A remaster of the game, titled Asterix & Obelix XXL: Romastered, was released in October 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Argument
Asterix, Obelix and Ideafix go out to hunt wild boars like every day, but while they are going through the forest they are surprised by a storm. Lightning strikes a tree near them and Ideafix runs away in fright. While searching for him, Asterix sees flames in the distance and discovers that the Romans have attacked and burned down the village. Arriving on the scene, he meets a Roman spy who claims to be the best in Julius Caesar's service until Julius Caesar fired him, so in revenge he has decided to divulge all the secrets of the Roman Empire and help the Gauls. He explains that the village was attacked by surprise and that, despite the heroic resistance of its inhabitants, they finally had to lay down their arms. After exploring the devastated village and its surroundings, Asterix is reunited with Obelix, who still can't find an Ideafix. Both chase a Roman legionnaire to the beach, where on the pier the spy points out some ships in the distance and tells them that his friends have been kidnapped, separated and several of them shipped to unknown destinations. In the forest they meet the Roman agent, who has finally managed to find an Ideafix for him to join the duo. After defeating all the Romans in a camp, he discovers a closed wagon in the middle of a road that runs through the area, inside which is the druid Panoramix. Obelix frees him and he tells them everything he had seen and heard while he was locked up. Caesar had been there, ordering his centurions to divide up the village's inhabitants, escorted by several entire legions, among the four corners of the Roman Empire. He had indicated their exact dates on a large marble map, which he tore up after completing his assignment, several of the prisoners being able to each get a fragment before being separated. Thus, the druid gives them the piece that he was able to recover and returns to the village, and Asterix, Obelix and Ideafix go to the place that said fragment shows to rescue their friends from the clutches of the Romans.

game mode
The game has Asterix and Obelix as playable characters, being able to control only one of them at a time, so that each segment of the levels is designed so that the character who has the necessary skills to overcome it can go through it, collaboration being essential Between both. Since each one has unique abilities, it will often be necessary to change characters, which will be done automatically, or through "relay stations", that is, points marked with a blue aura. Asterix's abilities include being able to pick up magic potion gourds, which are found in very specific locations and are immediately consumed upon contact with them, making him much more powerful for a very limited time. On the other hand, Obelix can break iron boxes without the potion and move much larger platforms and obstacles than Asterix can move.

Fights are an integral part of the game, they are numerous and are mainly carried out by hitting enemies with your hands, although there are other moves available that, in addition to being useful in certain circumstances, depend on some variety to the fight. After being hit, most enemies are stunned for a few seconds, at which point they can be grabbed and tossed in the air like a lasso, hitting nearby enemies. It is also possible, through a specific button, to request assistance from our partner, so that he hits or grabs an enemy and throws it towards you, giving you the opportunity to get a bonus if that enemy is hit while it is still in the air. In addition, another button allows you to launch an Ideafix to bite the rear of an enemy to leave him stunned and disarmed for a few moments, in which he will be vulnerable to attacks.

In addition to the fighting, there will also be numerous puzzles to solve. Many of them involve the use of a special torch that can only be carried to Asterix, whose flame fades over time until it is extinguished after a few moments, unless a brazier is lit in time.
