After what was seen last morning at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, we can already say that the best pound for pound in world boxing is called Terence Allan Crawford. This sport owed us a fight for years to settle which of the two welterweight dominators was the best, but the promoters' lack of agreement delayed it. Until yesterday, when Crawford, with his 39-0 and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) belt, and Spence, who sported a 28-0 mark and the other three belts (Federation, Association and Council) got on the sin city ring Gathering so much talent among the sixteen strings is a herculean task. Perhaps only a Fury-Usyk to unify the heavyweights that, for the moment, is not going to happen, could rival the category of these two men.

Rang the bell. Left guard for both and first round of probing. Right jabs to measure yourself. Technique. Prudence and divided assault. Thus began the second, but Spence went to the ground. It was not because of the forcefulness of Crawford's blow but because he was unbalanced in the ring, with his feet misplaced, and the direct one made him fall as if from a push. But he still counts as a knockdown, which caused him to lose that round 10-8. Too soon to begin to decide the fight for the one from Nebraska. That forced Errol Spence Jr. (Long Island, New York, 1990) to turn up the intensity and go to war. And he lost it, because you can't beat someone who makes everything perfect.

Terence Crawford (Omaha, Nebraska, 1987) gave a boxing lesson that will go down in history, because he did it in the most important fight of recent years, at the top of the sport that is not played, on big nights, where there are to demonstrate strength and talent. His blows came clear. Now straight, now curved. He would go in, hit and leave. Meanwhile, his rival was throwing her fists but they didn't hurt. Crawford closed in like Floyd Mayweather himself and absorbed impacts without flinching or moving an inch. Spence's fists hurt like a ping pong ball against a turtle's shell. This puts Crawford in a brutal dimension, because he overwhelmed one of the best pound for pound in the world, a guy who boxed like few others, who no one had beaten and who wore three belts. The assaults followed one another and all fell on the side of Omaha, who showed an almost insulting superiority in all areas of the fight.

In the seventh Crawford connected a perfect hook and knocked down the Long Islander, who returned to the canvas right at the end of the round, so a 10-7 for which he did everything well. By this point in the fight Errol Spence was an ecce homo. No one on earth had inflicted such a punishment on him before. Bloodied, a damaged eye and worst of all, he defeats her in his eyes. Opposite Crawford looked like he had just stepped out of the shower. He was going to end the fight at any moment. And that moment was the ninth round. Terence throws his compatriot a combination of blows that had been prepared for him in hell. Errol headed but the dodges did not come out and the referee decided to intervene and stopped the bleeding. technical KO. He could err on prudence. Other referees would have let it continue, because Errol, although with great difficulty, was maintained. But if we had, we would have seen him fall to the canvas in Las Vegas and not even have to listen to the count. Sometimes losing the spectacularity of a ko is necessary to protect the health of an athlete. Nothing to reproach the man in blue, because in that arena there was nothing to settle.

Terence Crawford is already the undisputed champion of the welterweights (147 pounds, 66,700 kg), one of the most disputed divisions in boxing, as he already was in the super lightweight divisions, quite a milestone. And now that? There was speculation about the possibility of a rematch or even an epic trilogy, but that was before they got into the ring. I think boxing lovers don't need to see a Crawford-Spence II, so the champion should look for other challenges. In his previous fight, he gave another master class to the Russian David Avanesyan, the fighter who, before making the leap to the United States, had destroyed our Kerman Lejárraga. And so he has done it 40 times in a row. Forty men have tried to defeat him and no one has been able to. Let's extrapolate that to any facet of life... Mr. Crawford, at his feet.
