The Republican Party has put most of its efforts into the constituent process, and that is because a large part of the presidential race of its main leader, José Antonio Kast, rests on its success. For this reason, to reduce the margin of error to the minimum, they put the constitutional lawyer Jorge Barrera in charge of the team of advisers for the Republican bench. From there he directs, coordinates and evaluates the steps of the advisers who are under his supervision and, in addition, translates the republican imprint into constitutional language. Although he has a very low level of exposure, within the former Congress he is recognized as the great cog behind the Republican machine. Those who know him point to him as the mastermind behind the most controversial amendments advanced over the weekend by Luis Silva.

At zero hours on Monday the term for the Constitutional Councilors to introduce amendments to the preliminary draft prepared by the Expert Commission ended and during the weekend the councilor Luis Silva, better known as "Professor Silva", advanced a series of proposals that already They have been the focus of criticism from the ruling party.

Among them are establishing a rank lower than that of the Constitution to international treaties, the amendment that could end abortion on three grounds, and suppressing output parity, to name a few.

 

 

Inside the former Congress, it is known that the Republican Party is making great efforts to successfully circumvent this constituent process and to leave its mark, but what is not very publicly known is who is behind it. It is the head of his advisors, the lawyer Jorge Barrera Rojas, a former Republican militant who oversees the work of that party's advisors.

On Monday morning, Silva admitted that there were still "open spaces" to negotiate with Chile Vamos the amendments that were going to be entered. Regarding this, he warned that, despite the fact that the discussion on the amendments was not completely closed, rather "liquid", he said, "none of them will be a surprise for the board".

This responds to a work of accompaniment of the republican directive towards the advisers, but also to the trust placed in Barrera. Given this, Silva, the Opus Dei numerary who swept the May 7 elections, acknowledged that Barrera's role is "very active."

In particular, he said that he fulfills the role of "coordination between the will of the councilors, who represent the citizens, and the amendments that are going to be discussed to see if they eventually remain in the project." Silva values Barrera's work and believes that he "has had a very active and certainly very important role in the second line to convert the will of the councilors into a text that can be transformed into an amendment."
