[Hardware] They launch an NVIDIA RTX 4060 with a rather atypical connector

Today we learned that the new graphics cards from NVIDIA, the RTX 4060 Dual and Palit StormX would have PCIe x8 connectors without dummy connectors. Something strange both in this brand and in general, which we are going to analyze.

It would be the first time that we see it in the Nvidia X60 series, we don't know how it will work for them and if it will finally be the only one that will carry it or they will continue betting on this connector in the future.

PCIe x8 connector
Most RTX 4060 series products come with full-size 16x PCIe connectors, even though they only have eight functional pins. Actually, half of the PCIe x16 slots on the RTX 4060 series graphics cards are dead lanes, making the graphics card appear to have a full PCIe x16 connection even though it doesn't.

Larger PCIe connectors may be thought to offer greater stability for graphics cards and prevent drops. However, these needlessly enlarged PCIe slots are likely simply serving the RTX 4060 series graphics cards to give it a more premium look.

Palit, with its StormX and Dual products, has become the only company to release graphics cards that have real PCIe 8x slots without dummy lanes. This allows these GPUs to be used with true 8x PCIe lanes on motherboards, something that is not possible with graphics cards masquerading as full PCIe x16 slots.

It's true that most graphics card users will put their GPUs in full 16x PCIe slots. However, it is positive to see that Palit has released a product that offers greater versatility compared to most other RTX 4060 GPUs available on the market. This feature could be especially useful for those who are upgrading a pre-built PC or have an unusual hardware setup. I'm sure there are people interested in getting an RTX 4060 with a "real" PCI x8 connection, and if you're one of them, Palit has products that might interest you.

I hope others copy this system and they are not the only GPUs that we see like this. For now we already have them available for purchase on the web as coolmod, so if you are interested in a type of card with this connection, you can already buy it and try it.

We will see how the bet on the Palit company turns out and if this is the beginning of a new, more real and authentic connection system or if it remains a failure and they have to return to the “fictional” PCIe 16x.

Tell us what you think and how you see this move by the company. The competition is so much at the moment that any change can tip the balance, and they know it, that's why these types of tests sometimes go well and others come to nothing. We at least have to comment on them and see what the general public thinks.
