A serious complaint of animal abuse was made by students from the University of Alba, La Serena campus, regarding the alleged euthanasia of two dogs that lived on the premises of the educational establishment.

The students began demonstrations after learning that "Llorón" and "El Negri", two community dogs, were sacrificed to be used in practical classes for the Veterinary Medicine degree.

According to the students themselves, both dogs disappeared on Saturday, May 20, and days later they were recognized by young people who worked with "donated bodies."

Antonia Jeraldo, director of Food at Animalba, the organization in charge of the dogs at the University of Alba (former Pedro de Valdivia University), explained that, after the disappearance of both dogs, they were investigating what happened and, "according to rumors that have reached us, These dogs are supposed to be inside the laboratory and they have not let us in to corroborate the fact."

"The bodies that are donated for science, within the establishment, do not have a protocol in which they tell us which clinic they come from, but they call to say that they have animals and do not have more information about their origin," added Jeraldo.

 

 

WHAT DOES THE UNIVERSITY SAY?

Through a public statement, the house of studies said it rejected all kinds of animal abuse and announced "an internal investigation to determine the responsibilities that fall to all people in these events that are reported, whether they are officials, students, teachers or third parties. inclusive".

The note adds that the University "will proceed to deliver all the respective information to the Public Prosecutor's Office, in order to clarify the facts, and will present" a complaint and criminal complaint for these acts, (directed) against those who are responsible.

Prosecutor Marcial Pérez arrived at the premises of the University of Alba, who ordered the attendance of the PDI to investigate the facts.
