Three Chilean puppies were adopted thanks to the joint work between a Swedish family and an animal rescue foundation in Valparaíso.

Pigeon, Candy and Pineapple; rescued from being run over, beaten and extreme nutrition, respectively; they were received by their new family without any mishaps or problems.

Sandra Sandoval, founder and manager of the foundation, told Cooperativa that this adoption was carried out thanks to social networks, where they were able to contact the Swedish family.

"We take care of doing the paperwork in Chile, medical care, medical trips, check-ups, special vaccines, putting an international chip on them, making sure that the puppies are healthy and in good condition for the trip," he said.

On the other hand, the adoptive family took care of paying the ticket for these three puppies and receiving them at their destination. "It's a joint effort, everyone is very happy," she mused.

Other puppies from the foundation have gone on to live with families in the United States and Canada. "They have to travel young, strong puppies, in good condition and with a very good character," she emphasized.

"It's not as difficult as people think, it's a matter of managing well, having the puppies in good condition for the trip, knowing what they need and doing what the law explains step by step," added Sandra Sandoval.

"IN CHILE IT COSTS A LOT TO GET ADOPTIONS"

Adult and mixed-breed puppies are the ones that "have the hardest time finding homes," the shelter reports.

"In Chile it is very difficult to get adoptions because people ask for months-old babies or puppies of some breed. Mixed-breeds, adults and especially the elderly are left in the shelter without having the possibility of being adopted. That is very sad because we condemn them to live without the warmth of a family for the rest of their lives. It doesn't matter if we take care of them and want them in the shelter, it's not the same," he closed.

At the Sam Foundation there are more than 80 puppies seeking to be adopted. If you are looking for a new member of your family, you can follow them on their instagram @fundacionsamaltair, where they report on all the animals they rescue.
