Despite the fact that the local gastronomy is very varied and has led typical foods from certain regions to be considered to become national heritage (ajiaco, for example) citizens cannot resist hamburgers.

This is evidenced by a report that came to light regarding this May 28, the date on which World Hamburger Day is commemorated. The celebration was instituted in memory of an event that occurred in 1990. That day, Louis Lassen, a German immigrant residing in the United States, served the first hamburger in his restaurant. And it was all by chance. The client who arrived at the place was in a hurry, so he asked for something quick to replace his lunch. This is how this dish would have been born that later spread throughout the world.

Based on food orders through Rappi, for example, it was established that Colombians ordered 5,267,234 hamburgers in the last year.

The average value paid per order to receive this order was close to 58,000 pesos.

The drink that Colombians use the most when ordering a hamburger is soda. In Latin America, Colombia is the third country in which hamburgers are ordered the most through delivery service platforms. Then follow Argentina and Mexico.

Weekends are the most propitious for the increase in orders for hamburgers from restaurants. On Sundays last year they processed 750,000 orders. Another day in which the requests for this food increase is Saturday and, in third place, it is located on Friday. This trend would be linked to the decision of Colombians not to prepare food during the weekend, which leads the hamburger to gain prominence, since it is a food that almost everyone likes.

What Colombians eat the most is the double hamburger. It registers 875,000 orders during the last year, according to a Rappi report.

In recent times, the vegan hamburger has also been positioned, which also has a record of orders on the platform.

Almost no Colombian eats a hamburger without a potato. This is the favorite accompaniment, requested in 645,951 of the orders placed. The dessert that is usually requested to complement this food is ice cream and brownie which, despite all the announcements of 'beware of very sweet or highly processed food' is also in high demand.

By cities, Bogotá leads the way with the majority of hamburger orders, taking Rappi as a point of reference. In this city, 1.91 million orders were made. In second place is Medellín, with 1.28 million, and in third place is Cali, with an average of 375,000 hamburger orders.

And, depending on the schedule, the night is the most desirable to order the product. In fact, 8 p.m. is the busiest time, with an average of 650,000 orders over the past year.
