[Auto] Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25: a quarter of a century for the quintessential hot-hatchback

There are few hot hatchbacks with as much tradition as the Volkswagen Polo GTI. It has been on the market uninterrupted for a quarter of a century, always following in the footsteps of its older brother, the Golf GTI. And precisely now it's time to celebrate that 25-year milestone with a special edition that wants to live up to it. It has been called Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25 and has practically all the equipment available in the model, as well as some specific details to make its exclusivity clear.

So much so that only 2,500 units of the model will be made, which will go on sale this summer. It is announced from a price of 35,205 euros in Germany, a rate that could vary in our country and that is high due to its exceptional nature. It drinks from that tradition that began with the Polo GT in 1979 and increased with the arrival of the GTI version in 1998. Just 3,000 units were made of that first copy that sold out quickly, although the truth is that it has little to do with the current beyond being a limited copy.

Based on the MQB platform, the current Volkswagen Polo GTI carries the 2.0 TSI four-cylinder gasoline engine. It reaches up to 207 hp and 320 Nm of torque, always with front-wheel drive and with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. With it, it achieves interesting features, such as acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. In the Edition 25, the sports suspension with special adjustments to lower its height by 15 mm and also the XDS electronic self-locking differential to improve its capabilities come standard.

Among the specific equipment of this model you can see details in black such as the 18-inch Adelaide wheels, the roof or the mirrors. Also some red accents such as the decorative strips or the brake calipers. There is no lack of the own design of the grill grid or the chrome exhaust outlets. In the passenger compartment it continues with the sports seats with leather upholstery in those two previously named colors, in addition to some decorative moldings and the numbered plate.

The sports steering wheel bears the "25" logo and comes as standard with virtually every system available on the model. This means that the Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25 has the Matrix LED IQ.Light headlights, the IQ.Drive assistance package with Travel Assist or the Ready2Discover multimedia system with an 8-inch screen. It is one of the few things that can be improved, as two others are optionally available.
