Niantic wants to convince players to stay in Pokémon GO with new content and the contests could be close to arriving.

The developers of Pokémon GO are faced with the difficult task of regaining the trust of the players. In recent times, Niantic's changes have caused great discontent in the community, raising the tension between users to levels never seen before. It seems difficult for them to reverse the decisions that brought about this situation. However, everything indicates that soon we will be able to enjoy some very important improvements for the video game. Among them, one that will give a special meaning to a mechanic introduced last January and that also gave rise to protests among fans due, basically, to the fact that it was useless.

 

Contests are coming to Pokémon GO
Until now, the size of a creature was irrelevant. Although Niantic introduced Pokémon XXL and XXS into the game, the utility did not go beyond collecting. However, the leaks point to the next arrival of the Contests. This mechanic has been present throughout the saga –sometimes under another name– and was particularly important in the third generation. In contests, creatures are valued for attributes that are not necessarily related to their combat power. In this sense, it seems that one of the adaptations of this idea to Pokémon GO will include small championships to see who has the largest specimen of a certain species.
The information about the contests was first discovered at the beginning of the year, but additional details have been found over the last few days. The new leaks are the ones that have discovered these competitions on the size of the pokemon that "are currently the only category that exists" in the game's code. Certain limitations have also been detected. Players will not be able to participate in more than one contest simultaneously, use a newly received Pokémon via trade, or use the same creature that was recently won. Additionally, it is revealed that there will be a system of ranks and points, so we can expect reward distributions. These competitions will only be accessible through PokéStops.

As of now, there are no further details regarding the contests or additional features for Pokémon XXL and XXS. It is also unclear when this feature will be added to the game. Perhaps it is still necessary to wait a little longer, since there is only one competition category suggests that the work is not yet done. However, this could be one of the great novelties to energize Pokémon GO. In addition to criticizing Niantic's policies, players have also complained that the pace of news has slowed down lately and that the events are a bit monotonous. In that sense, this may be the novelty they expected.
