Messi’s Potential Transfer to Saudi Al Hilal is ‘Done Deal’

Rabat - With rumors intensifying about Messi’s potential transfer, an unnamed source quoted by AFP suggested that Messi’s move is a “done deal.”

“Messi is a done deal. He will play in Saudi Arabia next season,” AFP quoted the source as saying on Tuesday.

The source described the reported contract between PSG and Al Hilal as huge, stressing that only small details are being finalized before the deal is officially announced.

AFP also quoted another source from PSG, stressing that the French club would have renewed his contract earlier if it wanted to keep him.

AFP’s source confirmation came a day after El Chiringuito reported that both Messi and Sergio Basquets will be joining aAl Hilal in the near future.

Other reports have suggested that Al Hilal is readying a $505 million deal to sign Messi.

The reports come a few days after Messi’s controversial trip to Saudi Arabia last week, with the PSG star said to have skipped training to travel to the Gulf kingdom on a promotional trip.

After news broke of PSG suspending him for missing a training session, Messi issued a video to apologize to both the French club’s leadership and his teammates. PSG lifted his suspension in response, and Messi has since returned to training with the French club.

If the reported deal with Al Hilal is confirmed, the superstar will be the latest in a long line of world-class, once celebrated football players who have chosen to play their end-of-career football careers with ultra-rich clubs in Gulf countries.

In 2022, the Portuguese and world football superstar Cristiano Ronalo joined Saudi Arabian club Al Nasser on a two-and-a-half-year contract believed to be worth over €200 million, or $214.5 million a year.
