The researchers, a collaboration with colleagues from the University of Manchester, WWF Hong Kong and Ocean Park Hong Kong between 2020 and 2022, showed samples from a pond in the reserve, in which they observed unknown creatures. We named the new species Tripedalia maipoensis to reflect its location. Although it is now known as Mai Po, he believes that this species is also distributed in addictive waters to the Pearl River Delta, as it is connected via a narrow estuary.
