Ecuador has gone more than 10 years without reporting a single outbreak. The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Eduardo Izaguirre, indicates that the last outbreak was registered in August 2011. That is, there are 139 months without cases of foot-and-mouth disease. Minister Izaguirre and the Executive Director of the Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad), Patricio Almeida, indicated that this phase will end on June 19, 2023. More than 4.6 million cattle will be vaccinated during May and June more than 4.6 million head of cattle and buffaloes will be vaccinated. Izaguirre states that having animals without foot-and-mouth disease "allows us to have healthy cattle, as well as quality meat and milk."
