The fauna has suffered greatly over the years. Currently, different animals are in danger of extinction. Getting a species to stop being so is complicated because different actions and resources have to be implemented. Some of them involve the punishment of illegal hunting, species trafficking, the fight against climate change, etc.

Currently, human action on the planet is contributing to what scientists have called the Sixth Great Extinction, since more than 300 species of vertebrates have disappeared since the year 1500. But really, how many animals are in danger of extinction? What are the species at risk?

How many animals are in danger of extinction?

The latest data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimate that approximately 5,200 animal species are currently in danger of extinction. By classes, these are the ones that would be about to disappear:

Reptiles: 20%
Pieces: 34%
Average: 11%
Amphibians and mammals: 25%

Iberian lynx

The Iberian lynx lives in forests and is settled in two specific areas: Sierra Morena and Doñana. In addition, a program has been underway for some time to reintroduce the spice in areas where they have been previously, for example, Castilla-La Mancha or Extremadura, among others.

Some of the threats of these animals are, above all, being run over. It is estimated that since 2000 57 lynx have died, 24 of them were run over. It is also due to illegal hunting, traps or poisoning.

In Spain the situation of the brown bear is critical. It is estimated that there may be more than 200,000 specimens in the world. However, in the Peninsula, which inhabited especially in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains, they have been disappearing due to deforestation, ecosystem changes or hunting.

One of the reasons why they are still present in the Pyrenees is because several Slovenian bears were introduced and managed to reproduce.

black stork

In Spain, the black stork was formerly a hunting species. However, by decree he was protected. The po[CENSORED]tion of these birds has been decreasing and increasing in several areas despite the fact that conservation plans have been carried out in communities such as Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León.

white imperial eagle

The white imperial eagle only has a po[CENSORED]tion of 800 specimens. In the country, its habitat develops above all in Madrid, Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha. Among the reasons that have led them to begin to disappear have been the lack of food or power lines.

Osprey

The bearded vulture is an animal whose food source is mainly the bones obtained from wild animals and cattle. This species can be seen in the Cantabrian mountain range due to the reintroduction of several specimens from the Pyrenees. The threat of his disappearance has been poisoning.
