The indiscriminate use of single-use plastic bottles in Ecuador, which reach the rivers, which flow into the ocean and end up in the Galapagos Islands, is what Hyundai and Galapaxy, a brand focused on environmental protection in Ecuador, are trying to reduce. , with the implementation of free drinking fountains.

These intelligent tools have the function of optimizing water consumption and bottle recycling and will be located in different universities in the country, the first being at the headquarters of the Catholic University of Quito and Cuenca and at the Casa Grande University of Guayaquil.

The Hyundai brand is carrying out this project, based on being able to slightly lower the consumption of plastic bottles. The drinking fountains are made of purified water and people can load their thermos or drink as many times as they want.

Quirós revealed a real issue when talking about the consumption of water in this type of container. “The message is direct, avoid using single-use plastic, that is, if you have your thermos, use it, because you change it every year or every six months, on the other hand, a bottle is thrown away after using it, it is not even recycled ", mentions.

In Ecuador, about five million tons of solid waste are produced, of which 25% is potentially recyclable. However, in the country only 3% of plastic bottles are recycled, according to the Hyundai executive, so the optimal thing will be to lower that consumption.
