The creepy town of Al Madam is an hour's drive from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and is believed to have been built in the 1970s and abandoned just a few years later in the 1980s.

Rumors abound as to why the people of the Al Kutbi tribe fled their homes, and what is certain is that the doors of their houses were left open and their possessions were left behind, suggesting that they fled in haste.

"No one is quite sure why people left this city, but rumor has it that some kind of nasty devilish creature drove them away," says Dutch photographer Erik Kruger, who had to get special permission from the government to fly into the area with your drone to get the pictures of the place and the surrounding roads. Another theory suggests that the city was hit several times a year by powerful sandstorms, which could have forced its inhabitants to leave without looking back.
