With a McLaren that was not so competitive, the Brazilian showed off his skills on the wet track and moved to the top of the race before completing the first lap of the European GP.

Things were not looking favorable for Senna, who that season had a McLaren that was not as forceful as in previous years. In qualifying he had finished fourth and everything seemed to indicate that the Frenchman Alain [CENSORED] and the Englishman Damon Hill, the Williams drivers, would dominate with absolute comfort. But the bad weather became a great ally for the three-time champion, who always stood out on the wet track.
At the start, carried out in torrential rain, Senna lost one place to Austrian Karl Wendlinger (Sauber) and was fifth in the single file. Far from giving up, he immediately began his recovery.

He first passed German Michael Schumacher (Benetton) heading into the first corner, as [CENSORED] and Hill moved to the front of the pack. Later, in the "S" that follows that variation, he beat Wendlinger from the outside as if the adherence were normal. Coming to Old Hairpin Senna was third and when he got to Cappice he passed Hill with absolute ease.

“It seemed like two races: Senna's, walking as if the track were dry; and that of the others, in a treacherous apartment”, recounted the Portuguese journalist Francisco Santos in his yearbook for the 1993 season.

After finishing second, the Brazilian set his sights on overtaking [CENSORED]. The chase ended at Melbourne Bend. Before entering the sector, the McLaren driver braked later, caught up with the Williams and overtook him on the inside. And as he passed it, he sped away with a devilish pace.
Senna completed that magical first lap with an advantage of 4.2 seconds over [CENSORED] and in the following one he already had 6.7 seconds over the Frenchman. Ultimately, he won the race with over one minute and twenty seconds on Hill.

“I can't believe it… At the start of the Grand Prix I really put my all into trying to get as much advantage as possible on the Williams before they settled in because they are superior to us and I felt it was the best tactic. I think I made the difference with the wet track and the slick tyres”, recounted the winner at the press conference.

The Brazilian only lost the lead between laps 35 and 38 of the race -in the hands of [CENSORED]- and even managed to take a turn from the rest of the competitors, except for Hill, who recovered it towards the end.

The McLaren team and Senna managed the strategy of the race very well. In round 18 he entered on slicks (like most, he opted to start on anchored compounds) and returned to wet tires on lap 28. Six laps later he shod slicks again and in the 66th he rained out the last game. oh! On the 57th turn he passed through the pit lane, but since his team was not ready, he continued and also set the lap record. His only problem was a nut on the right rear wheel, which got stuck in the second stop; and an error on the part of the team in the pressure of the covers for the water.
