The AFP is launching an online journalism and digital investigation course in Spanish on Tuesday to help journalists and journalism students work more efficiently and securely online, and avoid the traps of misinformation. The training, already available in English, French and Portuguese, is now also in Spanish. This is an initiative developed by the AFP digital research team with the support of the Google News Initiative and which already has more than 10,000 subscribers worldwide. “The use of social networks, combined with the growth of disinformation practices, encourages journalists to constantly update their. We want to share our expertise in digital investigation to help you be more effective and work more securely," said Phil Chetwynd, AFP's Chief Information Officer. With 10 modules, the course addresses strategies and tools that allow you to learn how to find the origin of photos and videos posted on the internet, how to geolocate images, how to identify reliable sources, and how to get the most out of search engines and social networks. The modules are designed to adapt to the rhythm of each student, who will be able to pause and restart their learning whenever they want. Upon completion, a certificate is obtained that accredits the skills acquired. The course is free to access and is already online. “Our partnership with the AFP aims to provide journalists with essential skills to fight disinformation and help in their work,” David Dieudonné, head of Google News Lab in France, Italy and Spain, said in a statement. The online course will be updated periodically, in the coming months, with new examples and exercises. The AFP has been working on digital verification since 2017. The team today has more than 140 journalists covering 85 countries in 26 languages.
