Las tensiones en el occidente de Asia tuvieron una nueva escalada luego del episodio en que militares de Israel intentaron desalojar ciudadanos palestinos de la mezquita de Al Aqsa.

Hostilities between Israel, Palestine and Lebanon have been frequent this week. Just a few days ago, more than 350 people were arrested in Jerusalem for an attack in which, according to human rights NGOs, Israeli soldiers attacked Palestinians celebrating Ramadan at the Al Aqsa Mosque.

At least 34 rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel on Thursday, the Israeli army confirmed, marking the largest attack since 2006, when the two nations waged war. Five rockets landed on Israeli soil, 25 were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system and the remaining four are being examined, a military spokesman said.

The projectiles, whose launch has not been officially attributed to any group, have caused at least one injury by shrapnel in northern Israel, where alarms sounded in several towns in the Galilee region.

"A rocket was launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory and was successfully intercepted," the Israeli army said in a statement.

The Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service reported that a 19-year-old boy suffered a hand injury from shrapnel, while a woman in her 60s was injured in the leg after falling on the road. to the bomb shelter.

On the other hand, Israeli media indicated that a 26-year-old man was also hit by shrapnel while riding a motorcycle near the border community of Shlomi.

The launch of about thirty rockets represents the largest attack carried out in Lebanon since the 2006 war, a conflict that Israel waged against the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia. Although, according to local media, the attack on Palestinian militias operating in southern Lebanon is identified as responsible for the projectiles this Thursday.

These militias, based in refugee camps in southern Lebanon, launch rockets into Israel at times of tension, the last time a year ago, in April 2022, also coinciding with the police charges at the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem in full Ramadan.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is receiving "continuous updates on the security situation and will carry out an assessment with the heads of security forces," his cabinet said.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility in August 2021 - for the first and only time since 2006 - for the launch of a batch of 19 rockets after several Israeli bombardments in response to several days of rocket fire by those Palestinian militias, although security sources take it for granted. that the Shiite group controls everything that happens in southern Lebanon.

The launch from Lebanon follows two days of tensions between Israel and Palestinian militias in Gaza, which fired seven rockets this morning, apparently aimed at an Israel Air Force plane. In addition, two other offensives occurred on the night of this Wednesday.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has called an emergency meeting with his Security Cabinet and the Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, will also meet with the military leadership after being informed by the Chief of Staff of the situation in the border.

This escalation of violence comes after two consecutive nights of Israeli police charges inside the holy Al Aqsa Mosque against Muslim worshipers, which left more than 30 Palestinians injured and some 350 detained.

A few hours after reporting the attack towards Israeli territory, regional media reported that there was a second attack, this time from Israel towards southern Lebanon.

The National Information Agency reported that Israeli artillery fired "several shells from their positions on the border" at two towns in southern Lebanon.

A Lebanese military source who requested anonymity confirmed to EFE that the forces of the Jewish State "responded" towards Lebanese territory shortly after several projectiles were launched from a point south of the city of Tyre, in the southern region of Lebanon.

The military did not specify what kind of response it is, although Al Manar television, spokesperson for the Shiite group Hezbollah, assured that Israel is attacking the vicinity of the village of Qlaiaa, also in southern Lebanon, with “heavy artillery”.

Lebanon's National News Agency (ANN) also confirmed that "Israeli occupation artillery fired a series of heavy shells from their positions on the border, in the western sector" at various points south of Tyre.

However, an Israeli military spokesman denied that they have attacked the territory of the neighboring country.

Israel drew international condemnation after police intervened early Wednesday to violently evict Palestinian worshipers from the Jerusalem Mosques, Islam's third holy site.

The intervention, which left 350 detainees according to the police and 37 injured according to the Palestinian Red Crescent, led to an escalation of rocket fire from Gaza and Israeli bombardments.

The incident occurred in full celebrations of the Jewish Passover and the Muslim month of Ramadan.
