Draeno Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Despite the slowdown in the world economy forecast for 2023, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts growth for the Colombian economy of 1%, higher than the latest projection made by the Banco de la República of 0.8%. According to the IMF, by 2023 the world economy is expected to slow down due to the increase in monetary policy rates to reduce global inflation. Global growth for 2023 is projected at 2.9%, a decrease from the 3.4% projected for 2022. The agency added that "despite this, there are recent encouraging news regarding strong domestic demand in developed and developing economies, especially in China." Although it is observed that inflation has begun to decrease, core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, has not responded significantly to the increases made by central banks. Added to this are potential increases in countries' domestic demand, government fiscal aid packages, and strong wage growth. Consequently, central banks are expected to maintain their contractionary policy to return to inflation targeting paths. In the case of Colombia, the goal is 3%. However, inflation has not let up despite the fact that the Banco de la República has had a restrictive monetary policy since September 2021, when it decided to start raising its interest rates in order to combat inflation. Despite these decisions by the Issuer, the cost of living has continued to rise, although it is expected, according to projections by the Ministry of Finance, headed by José Antonio Ocampo, that it will reach your ceiling this March.
