Related to this case, the St. Petersburg police had previously reported the murder of a 20-year-old woman, identified as Pashun Jeffery. His body was found inside his home. Their two-year-old son was Taylen Mosley.

"Due to the extremely serious allegations surrounding these tragic deaths, our investigation is currently focused on gathering information about the facts and circumstances of the case, as well as our client's state of mind," said Sara Mollo, spokesperson for the Ombudsman. Thomas allegedly murdered Pashun after repeatedly stabbing her with a knife and later abandoned Taylen in a lake, allowing the boy to receive fatal injuries, which would have caused his death.
