Three official video games from the Sonic saga for Android phones have several vulnerabilities, according to the French cybersecurity company Pradeo. These vulnerabilities mean that apps can leak private player data. These are free games available on Google Play.

The three games from the Japanese studio SEGA in question are 'Sonic Dash', with more than one hundred million downloads on the platform; 'Sonic the Hedgehog Classic' and 'Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom', both with more than ten million downloads.

As Pradeo explains on his blog, video games geolocate the player's position through the GPS of mobile devices. They send the location and other data about the device, such as the phone model, the operating system or the data connection it uses, to external servers.

The three applications send the information to eleven remote servers for marketing purposes. That is, it would seek to monetize the games based on ads. Of these servers, three are also identified as not certified. The cybersecurity company speaks of "potential threat". It also ensures that the three video games have other vulnerabilities that would allow the interception of messages sent between the application and the server.

SEGA claims to be aware of the issue. In statements to the ZDNet medium, the company ensures that "if any other associated company is collecting, transmitting or using the data in a way that our agreements with said companies or with SEGA Mobile's privacy policy do not allow, we will take immediate corrective actions " .

Legendary company in the history of video games, the Japanese company has had a long history of success in both the arcade and console markets.
