The Civil Defense reported on Friday that it also reports 420 homes destroyed and 2,509 uninhabitable since the rains began in December. The floods, accompanied by strong winds that affect part of Peru, started this week and grew in the last 48 hours, affecting urban and rural areas of the coastal departments of La Libertad, Lambayeque, Piura and Tumbes, on the border with Ecuador. The level of seasonal rains shot up due to the presence of Yaku, an "unorganized cyclone" off the Peruvian coast, in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
