[Economics] Informality fell to 57.9% for the November-January quarter

The first report on the informal labor market for 2023 showed positive figures, since the indicator showed an improvement, and for the mobile quarter between November 2022 and January 2023, the proportion of informal workers in the country was 57.9%, which It meant a decrease of 0.6 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the previous year (58.4%).

This was announced by Dane, which also reported that in said period in the country there were 22.14 million workers, of which 9.33 million were formal workers, while there were 12.81 million people employed as informal .

On the other hand, for the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, this proportion was 42.3%, which represented a decrease of 1.3 percentage points with respect to the moving quarter November 2021 - January 2022 (43.7%).

These zones include Bogotá, Medellín and its metropolitan area (AM), Cali AM, Barranquilla AM, Bucaramanga AM, Manizales AM, Pereira AM, Cúcuta AM, Pasto, Ibagué, Montería, Cartagena and Villavicencio. In these cities there are 10.45 million workers, of which 6.03 million are formal and 4.42 million informal.

Likewise, for the total of the 23 cities and metropolitan areas, the informality rate stood at 44%, which meant a decrease of 1.3 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year (45.3%).

For the analysis period, of the 23 cities and metropolitan areas, those with the highest proportion of informality were: Valledupar (68.3%), Riohacha (67.8%) and Sincelejo (65.9%); while the cities with the lowest proportion of informality were: Bogotá (32.5%), Manizales and its metropolitan area (35.3%) and Tunja (39.4%).

Meanwhile, in the po[CENSORED]ted centers and dispersed rural geographic domain, which refers to municipalities in rural areas, the indicator was 85.1%, representing an increase of 0.9 percentage points compared to the November 2021-January 2022 mobile quarter.
