[News] Mexico captures those responsible for kidnapping and murdering US citizens

On March 3, four people from the United States were kidnapped, which triggered a search by the Mexican authorities. A week later, the Police found two dead Americans. While from Mexico City it is said that the abduction was a "confusion", US legislators agree that it is about terrorism and even valued the proposal of military intervention.

The Mexican authorities reported that they captured another five people involved in the kidnapping and murder of United States citizens that occurred on March 3. According to the Tamaulipas Prosecutor's Office, the state where the kidnapping took place, the people are all men who supposedly belong to the Gulf Cartel.

These arrests are added to that of another subject who had already been arrested on March 7, the day the Police managed to find the whereabouts of the four US citizens. On that date, the authorities found two dead men, another wounded by a firearm, and an unharmed woman who matched the description of the hostages.

"The injunction executed this day against the five defendants was requested and obtained, as there was evidence of their probable participation in the events recorded on March 3 in the downtown area of Matamoros," the Tamaulipas Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

The sixth alleged implicated, a 24-year-old young man who was watching the place where the victims were found, was linked to the process for the crime of aggravated kidnapping and entered preventive detention.

The Prosecutor's Office has not detailed whether these five detainees are the same ones who appeared last Wednesday morning handcuffed in front of their facilities.

On Thursday, local media released a pamphlet in which the Gulf Cartel apologized for the events and claimed that the attackers acted without authorization from their superiors, which is why they handed them over. They were allegedly handed over by members of the Gulf Cartel, the criminal group that operates in the area, accompanied by a note apologizing for the events.

An image of that manuscript along with five men with their hands tied, hooded and lying on the asphalt also circulated on social networks without the authorities confirming its authenticity.
