-Lexman™ Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Rabat- The Israeli musical “El Boustane Sepharadi” by Yitzhak Navon will be presented on November 30 and December 1 at Mohammed V National Theater, Director General of Habima National Theater Noam Semel announced on Thursday. Semel described the play's presentation in Morocco as a “historic event,” emphasizing that “this is the first time that this musical is presented in an Arab Muslim country.” It is one of Israel's most famous theatrical works, depicting the life of a Sephardic Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem in the early twentieth century, he said. Semel highlighted that the play’s presentation in Morocco is the manifestation of a dream he always had to bring Arab and Jewish cultures together through the presentation of his theatrical works. Twenty actors, singers, and dancers from the group “Habima” will travel to Morocco to present the musical, accompanied by a large media team from Israel. According to Semel, the event “will be a new manifestation of the coexistence of Jewish and Arab cultures,” as well as “the beginning of an important theatrical exchange between the two countries.” The play is directed by Tzedi Tzarfati and performed by Tal Mousseri, Roni Daloumi, and Hanny Nahmias. It is based on Yitzhak Levy's Anthology of the Judeo-Spanish Liturgy and Book of Romances. The play's presentation is organized by the Friends of Moroccan Judaism Association, the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and the Israeli Ministry of Regional Cooperation, in collaboration with the Israeli liaison office in Rabat. There are reportedly 2,200 Jews living in Morocco. In Israel, Moroccan Jews and Jews of Moroccan ancestry make up approximately 1 million of the country's 9.1 million po[CENSORED]tion. King Mohammed VI has emphasized the freedom to practice any religion in Morocco, “I protect Moroccan Jews as well as Christians from other countries, who are living in Morocco,” the king said.
