Royal Air Maroc Flights to Doha Cancelled Ahead of Morocco-France Game

Rabat - Morocco's national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) last night announced the cancellation of the seven flights it had previously scheduled to carry fans from Casablanca to Doha on Wednesday to attend Morocco's semi-finals match against France, which is set to take place tonight.

“Following the restrictions imposed by the Qatari authorities, Royal Air Maroc regrets to inform its customers that its partner Qatar airways has canceled the flights operated on 14/12/2022 from Casablanca to Doha as part of their code-share partnership,” RAM said on Twitter.

RAM apologized to their customers and said they will reimburse the price of the tickets but asked the disappointed clients to not come to the airport. Shortly after posting, RAM deleted the post in which they announced the news.

The Moroccan airline announced on Monday that it has scheduled a total of 30 flights “operated by wide-body aircrafts for next Tuesday and Wednesday” for the benefit of football fans wishing to support the Atlas Lions in Doha.

However, the news of the cancelation came as a huge shock to fans who had already bought match tickets and booked hotel rooms and were eager to support the Moroccan national team in their big game against the reigning champions.

Several customers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the last-minute decision, as well as the customer service.

“I would like to warmly thank Royal Air Maroc for allowing the fans of the lions of Atlas to be able to stand in endless queues to buy plane tickets to cancel in 7 flights in a row,” said an Instagram user sarcastically.

“Oh what a great company that offers tickets and then cancels them the same day a few hours before the flight!” said another Instagram user.

Morocco is set to lock horns today with France at 8:00 pm GMT+1 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar. The Atlas Lions are looking to make history again and book their first-ever place to the World Cup final.
