[Curiosities] ‘Unbalanced’ Suspect Arrested for Physically Assaulting 2 French Tourists Near Rabat

Rabat - Moroccan security services in Moulay Bousselham, a town near Rabat, arrested on Monday a suspect on charges of physically assaulting two French tourists.

The suspect attacked the tourists -- an elderly couple -- using stones, preliminary investigations showed, adding that the victims sustained  injuries of “varying severity.”

The suspect showed signs of mental disorders, the security services statement stressed. It emphasized that the tourists were transferred to the Moulay Youssef Hospital Center in Rabat to receive the necessary medical attention.

Police have put the suspect in custody to further investigate the case and determine his motives for physically assaulting the elderly French couple.

A number of French outlets reported on the incident today, noting that one of the tourists has died of her injuries.

“A French tourist has died after being attacked, like her husband, by an ‘unbalanced’ man near Rabat,” the reports converginly noted, quoting the director of the hospital where the two victims had been transferred during the night from Monday to Tuesday.

The tourist, who is in her 80s, died of head trauma; her husband is in stable condition, the reports said.
