Over 77,000 New Businesses Debuted in Morocco in 2022

 

 

 

Rabat - Morocco saw the creation of exactly 77,322 in the first 10 months of 2022, according to data from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).


52,968 of the new businesses are registered as legal entities, while 24,354 are self-employed, says OMPIC in a general overview.

The growth in the number of businesses in Morocco is especially prominent in the trade sector. Overall, 36.42% of new companies are registered as trade companies, followed by construction and public works (BTP) and real estate activities (17.72%).  

Morocco’s industrial sector contributed 7.12%, while hotels and restaurants had a share of 6.46% of newly created businesses. Information technology and communication represent 2.59% of new businesses, 2.22% in agriculture and fisheries, and 1.10% in the financial sector.

Regarding the legal status of new businesses, OMPIC specifies that 62% of new companies are registered as limited liability companies with a single shareholder (SARL-AU), while 37.6% of companies are limited liability companies SARL. Whereas, 0.3% are listed as joint stock companies (SA) and 0.1% as general partnerships (SNC).

The report further details that over 21,000 newly created businesses are based in the Casablanca-Settat region, followed by Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima with more than 10,000, Rabat-Sale-Kenitra with more than 10,000, Marrakech-Safi with over 7,000 and Fez-Meknes with nearly 6,000 new businesses.
