[Auto/Moto] Help, Moskvich is back: the former Renault factory will make a (Chinese) SUV

fter a 20-year hiatus, Russia started production of the Moskvich car brand last Wednesday at a plant near Moscow .

The Moskvich 3, a petrol - powered crossover  sedan with alloy wheels, LED headlights and a large central infotainment display, will be one of the cars to be produced by the Russian automaker. 

From what we can see, it appears that the car is identical to the Sehol X4 compact SUV , from Chinese automaker JAC . According to some rumors, the design, engineering and platform appear to have been delivered from China and at the launch of the vehicle, some JAC  stickers could be glimpsed.

 

 

The project manager Maxim Klyushkin, denied cooperation with the Chinese company and on the occasion, said: “ We have (the Russian company) Kamaz as an external partner and we have a long-standing partner with whom we are working ".

Last May, Renault sold its stake to AvtoVAZ for just one ruble and today, the former French plant has been renamed “Moscow Automobile Factory Moskvich”.

The Russian government aims to produce 100,000 Moskvich vehicles a year, some of which will also be 100% electric and compared to other car manufacturers it is certainly much less than the average (for example, Tesla manages to produce 22,000 vehicles a week).

Finally, by December 2022 , the first cars should be produced and the Moskvich 3 will be sold in Russia as early as next month
