BirSaNN
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – A middle school teacher in Texas no longer works there after a comment he made in class expressing his race was superior to another. The teacher, who worked in the northern Austin suburb of Pflugerville, has not been publicly identified by officials. The Bohls Middle School teacher, drew outrage from parents and community members over a statement, captured by students on video, that he was "ethnocentric," which meant he thought his "race is the superior one," after the videos were shared on social media Friday. The district announced in a statement Monday morning that the teacher was no longer employed by Pflugerville schools but did not say whether the educator had been fired or had resigned. The district is looking for a replacement. The conversation was inappropriate, Superintendent Douglas Killian said in the statement. "We want to reiterate that this conversation does not align with our core beliefs and is not a reflection of our district or our culture at Bohls Middle School," Killian said. "The advisory discussion was inappropriate, inaccurate and unacceptable." The district has notor provided more specifics about the context of the comments. Videos posted to various social media platforms show the teacher, who is white, discussing race in a classroom full of students, many of whom are Black.
