Since its arrival on the Formula 1 calendar in 1973, the Brazilian Grand Prix used to host the discipline at the start of the season. In 2004, it fell to the end of

the championship, which had the effect of giving it a decisive character in the awarding of the title on numerous occasions, including five consecutive times from 2005 to 2009. The Interlagos circuit hosted 37 of the 47 editions of the Brazilian Grand Prix, the 10 others being the prerogative of Jacarepagua, near Rio de Janeiro, in 1978, then from 1981 to 1989. Alain [CENSORED] is the record holder for victories in Brazil (6) ahead of Michael Schumacher (4), Carlos Reutemann (3), Sebastian Vettel (3) and Lewis Hamilton (3). Surprisingly, no Brazilian driver has triumphed more than twice at home, be it Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna or Felipe Massa, while Rubens Barrichello has never won there. On the other hand, “Magic” Senna holds the pole position record there (6). While the world titles are awarded to Max Verstappen and Red Bull, the major challenge of this Grand Prix concerns the fight between Sergio Pérez (280 points) and Charles Leclerc (275) for the status of vice-champion, without forgetting the possibility of a first victory in 2022 for Mercedes, on a track where Lewis Hamilton won last season after a spectacular comeback from 10th place on the starting grid. Like the 2021 edition, the Brazilian GP hosts a sprint race judged over 100 km on Saturday. It is the poster for Canal+, just like the Sunday Grand Prix, at 3 p.m. local time, or 7 p.m. in France.*
