Her year ended on a tough note when she lost the finals on a very close margin of the BWF World Junior Championship to a Chinese player.

The same Chinese player defeated her in two consecutive finals. But Saina Nehwal finally won the World Junior Badminton Championship by defeating a Japanese player. 2018 was a dream come true comeback for Saina Nehwal, after two bad years. She entered the Season by reaching the finals of Indonesia Masters. And then winning gold in the Commonwealth games following a bronze at the Asian Championships her third in this tournament. And then came her Asian Games bronze medal, which came after waiting for 36 long years for India in badminton. Following which she reached the finals of the Syed Modi Badminton Super 300, but had to face defeat and settle for the second position against a Chinese player.

She played her last tournaments in 2019. Where Nehwal won the Indonesia Masters and her first Super 500 title. She then defended her National Badminton Championship, winning it for the 4th time.
