Saina Nehwal is an Indian Professional Badminton Player and a former singles world number 1. She is the first Indian Female badminton player from India to reach world rank 1. The Early Life of Saina Nehwal
Saina was born on 17th March 1990 to a family of three in Hisar being the younger sister. Where her father worked as a professor at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Haryana. But her Badminton only began when her father was transferred to Hyderabad.

She had issues with communication, as she did not know how to speak the language spoken in the southern part of the country. And this is when Saina Nehwal found Badminton and expressed her emotions and socialized with the kids. Nehwal started with badminton to fulfill her mother Usha Rani’s dream who herself was a state-level player.

Nehwal started her professional career at the age of 17. And has been playing professionally ever since. Career Beginning
Nehwal’s career began by creating history. At the age of 17 when Saina Nehwal participated in the World Champions, she lost. But in 2006, she became the Under-19 National Champion creating history and winning the “Asian Satellite Badminton Tournament” twice being the first-ever person to do so. Her year ended on a tough note when she lost the finals on a very close margin of the BWF World Junior Championship to a Chinese player.

The same Chinese player defeated her in two consecutive finals. But Saina Nehwal finally won the World Junior Badminton Championship by defeating a Japanese player. In the year 2008, Saina Nehwal became the first Indian to reach the quarter-finals of the Asian Games. And further won the Chinese Tapei Open 2008.

Further in 2009, she won the Indonesian Open title, winning her first super series after the Olympic appearance. Saina Nehwal though reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals of a couple of tournaments afterward but was not able to qualify for the further rounds.

But seeing the statistical information of the beginning of Saina Nehwal career, she did quite well. And was also given the title of the “most prominent player” just after a couple of years of turning professional.

The Home Crowd Support
Saina Nehwal kept on performing and reaching the knock-out stages of tournaments. And seeing this she received an overwhelming response from the Indian crowd. But Saina Nehwal found herself under a lot of pressure due to the support. And her coach advised her to not take too much pressure on herself, wanting her to only focus on her game.

Following the advice, Saina Nehwal went on to win the India and Singapore open series 2010. In the latter half of the year, she defended her Indonesia Open title as well. Which put her into the World Number 2 spot, following back of a couple of points from a Chinese player. But could not keep it for too long, and lost her position in the BWF World Championship. By the end of the 2010 season, Nehwal won the Hong Kong Super Series. Winning 4 super series titles within a year for herself.

Just like any other year, Nehwal started the year 2011 with a win at the Swiss Open. But lost the finals at 2011 Malaysian Open and had to end up being a runner up. Her next campaign was with an Indian contingent at the BWF Double Star Sudirman Cup. Where Saina Nehwal put up one of her best matches against then World Number 2 in the quarter-finals and lead India to the victory for that match. A few of her next tournaments failed. And Nehwal made a comeback in the 2011 BWF Super Series Masters Finals. Where she became the first Indian woman to reach the finals of this tournament and lost to the World Number 1 Wang Yihan.

Creating Dominance
The first tournament in 2012 was the Swiss Open. Where Saina Nehwal successfully defended her Swiss Open title. Followed by her Thailand Open Title which she won for the first time. Saina Nehwal started creating dominance after she defended her Indonesia Title thrice in three consecutive years. Saina’s next stop was at the London Olympics, where she had to settle for the bronze medal. After a defeat in the semi-finals. But she came back by winning the Denmark Open. And got a spot in the French Open for the very first time.

Her next target will surely be the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, and we can expect her to put up a good performance.

According to the information of Saina Nehwal, she made it a habit to at least reach the quarter-final stage of any tournament. She again made it to the knock out stages of the England Open and the World Championship but could not move forward. And her next title win only came against a fellow successful Indian player P.V Sindhu. Where she went ahead to win the Indian Open Grand Prix Tournament 2014. Following which she won the China Open. Becoming the first Indian player to win this title. Her China win came after the Common Wealth Games from which Nehwal had to quit due to injuries.

In 2015, she won her first Women’s singles title Indian Open. And this made Saina Nehwal the world number 1 player at the age of 25. Being the first Indian player to do so in the Women’s category. She had a more productive year afterward. When she was finally able to win a medal at the World Championship, after losing it at the quarter-finals year after year. But was not able to defend her China Open title, but fought very hard.

Past Few Years
In the years 2016 & 17, Saina Nehwal just went in and out of injuries. She performed in some tournaments, but in most was not able to clear the group stages itself. Her only win in 2016, was the Australian Super Series. And in 2017 was the 82nd National Badminton Championship, which again came against P.V. Sindhu.

2018 was a dream come true comeback for Saina Nehwal, after two bad years. She entered the Season by reaching the finals of Indonesia Masters. And then winning gold in the Commonwealth games following a bronze at the Asian Championships her third in this tournament. And then came her Asian Games bronze medal, which came after waiting for 36 long years for India in badminton. She then played the semi-finals of the Denmark Open but had a tough loss against Tunjung. Following which she reached the finals of the Syed Modi Badminton Super 300, but had to face defeat and settle for the second position against a Chinese player.

She played her last tournaments in 2019. Where Nehwal won the Indonesia Masters and her first Super 500 title. She then defended her National Badminton Championship, winning it for the 4th time. And had to face the end of her World Championship Record of reaching the quarter-finals 8 times in a row. When she lost a match with three games in the pre-quarterfinals.

Saina Nehwal has never been the kind of person who shares personal information with the world. All she does is shares her stories of passion to the world. Though Saina Nehwal married at the age of 28 but has been in a relationship with Kashyap for a decade as per sources.
