• Other Information : Cobain formed Nirvana with Krist Novoselic in his hometown in 1985 and established it as part of the Seattle music scene, with his album Bleach released by independent record label Sub Pop in 1989. After signing with DGC Records, the band achieved success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first single from his second album Nevermind (1991). Following the success of Nevermind, Nirvana was labeled "the main band" of Generation X, and Cobain was hailed as "the mouthpiece of a generation."  Cobain, however, was often uncomfortable and frustrated, believing that his His message and artistic vision had been misinterpreted by the public, and his personal problems were often the subject of media attention. He challenged the Nirvana audience with his final studio album, In Utero (1993). The album did not match Nevermind's sales figures but was still a critical and commercial success.
