FIVE OF THE EIGHT RECENTLY DETECTED EXTINCTIONS HAVE OCCURRED IN SOUTH AMERICA, FOUR OF THEM IN BRAZIL.

The study authors have assessed 51 critically endangered species for eight consecutive years.

On the other hand, the researchers also recommend that four species (the Glaucous Macaw, the Pernambuco Owl, the Javan Lapwing, and the Diademed Lory) previously considered critically endangered be considered possibly extinct. However, future studies are required to confirm its extinction.
