Pacto-Historico-2-696x406.jpg

The Historical Pact officially filed a constitutional reform with which it seeks to change the sessions of the Colombian Congress and adjust the salaries of parliamentarians, among other issues.
The initiative was presented by Roy Barreras, Iván Cepeda and Gustavo Bolívar, and the representative of the Green Party, Catherine Juvinao.

The reform modifies the sessions of Congress, adjusts the salary of senators and representatives, and strengthens the grounds for losing investiture.

Roy Barreras, president of the Senate, indicated that this is a draft legislative act, that is, it must have eight debates to be approved.

"With this, a more efficient and transparent Congress is sought to achieve the reforms that the country needs," said the official.

The initiative that modifies the Constitution sti[CENSORED]tes, initially, limiting the indefinite reelection of congressmen, establishing a term limit of three terms.

With this measure, a gradual renovation of the Congress is intended, giving rise to the emergence of new leaderships and putting an end to the “screwed-up” congressmen.

Second, the legislative recess period of Congress will be shortened, in order to extend the semester of sessions that make up each legislature.

Thus, the first session would begin on July 20 and end on December 20, and the second would run from February 1 to June 20.

"The current prolonged recess lacks technical and political justifications, being one of the main demands of citizens who see the gap between congressmen and ordinary citizens as unfair," the authors said.
