The "Railway Motorcycle", as its creators have baptized it, uses different technical solutions that allow it to be used both on the road and on a train track. With it, it is intended to create an effective work tool for railway maintenance operators, thanks to its innovative disinfection system for them.

 

Imagination has no limits and the fact is that, on many occasions, this results in interesting projects like the one we bring you today: “The Railway Motorcycle”. Designed to be able to ride both on the road and over train tracks, this incredible motorcycle could represent the solution to the mobility problems of railway maintenance workers around the world. The design is the work of Heqi Wang in collaboration with the Lanzhou University of Technology and its technical team consisting of Jianning Su, Xinyi Ma, Kai Qiu. In addition, it has been the winner of the London International Creative Competition in the category of products designed by "non-professionals".

In short, we are talking about a motorcycle that could circulate on the road in a conventional way, since it equips two wheels shod with tires to use, but it also has an innovative lateral system that manages to be coupled to the train tracks. In this way, it could become an ideal work tool for employees of companies that are dedicated to the maintenance and repair of trains as well as the tracks on which they travel.

 

As detailed by its creators: “The railway motorcycle is not only a manned motorcycle that can work on land, but also on the railways. In the context of the rapid development of the world's railways, the responsibility of railway maintenance and maintenance workers is becoming more and more important, but most railway maintenance workers can only walk to repair, reducing efficiency and safety . The railway motorcycle is an innovative design. Compared with other motorcycle designs, it is dual-use, which can be used by maintenance workers and bought by ordinary people.”

The system that it has to be able to carry out this double function is given on its sides, which will be able to slide down and attach to the track. In addition, it has, as we have learned from the colleagues at Le Repaire, a conventional rear wheel and a front wheel without a hub. The electric motor is integrated inside its ring and it is also held by a non-oscillating lower arm as a tilting arm.

 

Other outstanding details are its body made of an aluminum and magnesium cover, or its reduced general dimensions. Its length would be less than 1,800 mm, while the width is just 640 mm. Its creators also declare a final weight of just 40 kilograms, the result of its minimal design and the use of light materials in its manufacture.

It could really be a very interesting contraption to be used on a railway. We do not know the specifications in terms of power or autonomy, but we are sure that it could be a good solution when going to remote places to carry out track maintenance work, or even repair a damaged train. It remains to be seen if the authorities would be willing to open rail traffic to this type of vehicle.
