Madonna is known for her continuous reinvention and versatility in the music production, composition and visual presentation of her work. She pushed the boundaries of artistic expression in commercial music, remaining completely in charge of all aspects of her career. Madonna is often cited as an influence for other artists in the design and production of their artwork. Born and raised in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in contemporary dance.
