The Italian firm Ducati has been developing its first electric motorcycle for months, and has finally revealed all its secrets. And it looks just amazing.

It was in October 2021 when the Italian brand announced an agreement with the MotoGP promoter to provide the new bike for the FIM Moto E World Cup, and a couple of months later it took it out for a walk in Misano, albeit completely camouflaged and without saying anything at all.

Now, not only does it show us an explanatory video, but it also reveals many secrets that the motorcycle that should debut in the 2023 Moto E Championship will have. For now, the most relevant thing is that it will have 150 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque, for a motorcycle weighing 225 kilos. With this power/weight ratio, it will be capable of accelerating up to 275 km/h, a figure it already achieved in its tests at Mugello.

With the technical name V21L, the bike that is exclusive to the Moto E Cup (Ducati will exclusively supply the 18 machines that will compete in 2023) was developed jointly by the designers and engineers of Ducati and Ducati Corse (the competition division ), since it will also serve for future developments of the brand, including the first electric street motorcycle, although nothing has been said about it except for these clues left by the company's CEO, Claudio Domenicali.

"As Ducati, we went in search of a challenge that would allow us to contribute to the common goal of reducing CO2 emissions while maintaining the principles with our DNA linked to racing. We determinedly agreed to develop Ducati's electric racing motorcycle. higher performance than current technology allows, and to use this project as a laboratory in which to build our future. The result we have achieved is amazing."

In addition to the powerful engine and low weight, there are a number of solutions never seen before. The battery pack has been designed to fit naturally in the middle of the bike, and has 1,152 cylindrical cells for a weight of 110 kilos and a capacity of 18 kWh. This is recharged from a 20 kW socket integrated in the tail.

The inverter weighs just 5 kilos and, according to the brand, was taken from an electric competition vehicle (the Formula E Audi?), while the motor is externally developed and weighs 21 kilos, offering a maximum speed of 18,000 rpm . The entire electrical system is 800V to maximize the output of the electric powertrain.

Another very innovative solution is the dual-circuit liquid cooling system, which was designed to lower the temperature of the battery and the motor/inverter unit, guaranteeing stable temperatures at all times. The brand indicates that it is so efficient in its operation, it is not necessary to wait for it to cool down to be able to recharge. It is enough to plug directly into the cable, taking about 45 minutes to recharge to 80% of its capacity.

Part of the external structure is aluminum, while the rest, along with the chassis, is carbon fiber, including the box that surrounds the batteries, which serves as a structural component of the frame. Both suspensions feature the architecture of the MotoGP Desmosedici, with the rear subframe including the tail and rider seat made of carbon.

The front fork is Öhlins NPX 25/30 with 43mm inverted stanchions derived from the Superleggera V4, while at the rear, the swingarm is aluminum and the shock absorber is the fully adjustable Öhlins TTX36. The brakes, of course, are Brembo. A double 338.5 mm diameter steel disc clamped by two calipers at the front, and a 220 mm single disc at the rear.
