He recorded his first solo album, Estradeiro, in 1981 on Continental. He participated in several concerts and music festivals and, in the 1990s, when he accepted invitations to represent "violeiro characters" in soap operas, he became nationally known. His style is characterized by experimentalism. It adds a typical rustic sound of the 10-string viola, also with influences from the border cultures of its state, such as Paraguayan and Andean music, at the same time reflecting po[CENSORED]r and erudite traits. With more than 30 years of career and 10 solo albums recorded, Almir became one of those responsible for the preservation of the 10-string viola. The musician added a more sophisticated touch to the instrument, seasoned with foreign styles such as blues, rock and folk, a mixture of folk, classical and po[CENSORED]r music. Born in Campo Grande, capital of Mato Grosso do Sul, into a family with Turkish and Lebanese roots, Almir Sater had been playing the guitar since he was twelve years old and liked the bush and the sounds of nature. At the age of twenty, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to study law, but gave up his career as a lawyer, motivated initially by listening to a duo playing viola caipira in Largo do Machado. He returned to Campo Grande where he formed the duo Lupe and Lampião with a friend, adopting Lupe as his stage name. With the duo broken, he then devoted himself to the study of the 10-string viola, with Tião Carreiro as his master. Motivated by Music, he went to São Paulo to start his solo career.
