Draeno Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 The Ioniq 5, Hyundai's new electric crossover, has earned the IIHS's highest rating for safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the coveted “Top Safety Pick+” to the Hyundai Ioniq 5. This electric crossover continues to rack up accolades around the world; that are added to the "World Car of the Year" award, awarded a few months ago. It performed well in all six of the agency's crash tests; as frontal crashes (driver side small overlap, passenger side small overlap and moderate overlap); along with side impact, roof strength test and head restraint test. Additionally, it also earns a “Superior” rating in both frontal crash prevention categories (both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-front pedestrian). The set of alerts, radars and sensors worked perfectly, avoiding collisions in all test scenarios. To top it off, the standard LED headlights offered on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 earn an “Acceptable” rating; while SEL and Limited trim LED headlamps performed better in lighting tests. Thanks to these results, it was awarded the Top Safety Pick+. However, the IIHS notes that this only applies to units manufactured after December 2021; when Hyundai made changes to the front seats that could affect the evaluation of the head restraints. In this way, the high level of safety of this crossover, which had previously achieved five stars in Euro NCAP tests, is reaffirmed. https://autosdeprimera.com/hyundai-ioniq-5-iihs-top-safety-pick-2022/ 1
