FNX Magokiler
The meeting of the board of directors of the Constitutional Convention is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. this Thursday, where its members must vote whether or not to reopen the debate on the list of guests for the July 4 ceremony and, in that context, define whether or not they will include former Presidents in it. The members of the board are its president María Elisa Quinteros (MSC) and the vice president Gaspar Domínguez (INN), in addition to the deputy vice presidents Natividad Llanquileo (Mapuche people), Bárbara Sepúlveda (PC), Yarela Gómez (FA), Luis Jiménez ( Aymara people), Tomás Laibe (Col. Soc), Francisco Caamaño (Constituent People) and Hernán Larraín Matte (Evópoli). So far, most of its members have spoken out for some option, with few exceptions. For example, Quinteros assured that he would not give his opinion on the point until it was discussed at the table, but that "the voters know my position." His comrades from Constituent Social Movements have spoken out against it. Meanwhile, Domínguez stated on Tele 13 Radio that "personally I would like the former President and the former Presidents to attend the ceremony, but I understand that it is a collective definition that the Constitutional Convention must take in the coming days and I hope that it goes that address." Deputy Vice President Tomás Laibe has said in various statements to the press that he is in favor of inviting them and that he would like them to be at the ceremony, but that there would be a risk of generating a "difficult" moment for the Convention during the act due to the action of some conventionalists who disagree with the matter. In the Broad Front, its representative at the table Yarela Gómez is in favor of the invitation to the former Presidents and will vote in favor of reopening the debate. "Our position has always been that they are part of the ceremony as guests." The reserved seats, meanwhile, are of the position that the act has to be "as formal as possible", as Luis Jiménez explained to Emol this week. However, both he and Natividad Llanquileo (Mapuche) assured that they have to consult their groups again about the particular decision they will make during the afternoon. "It is something that has to be consulted. I respond to my group, so I have to see it especially with the reserved seats, which sponsored me, and with the Coordinator, and see what opinions they have," answered Llanquileo. However, other members of the Plurinational Coordinator have openly declared themselves against the point. Deputy Vice President Francisco Caamaño does not have a known position, but his group, Pueblo Constituent, reported this morning that they will vote against reopening the debate. "We believe that within the republican act that will be held, only the current President should be invited, since the draft must be delivered to him and he and his government will be the one to implement the transitory norms. We have taken the position that it is not necessary invite the former Presidents because they are not currently representing the citizens," explained Ingrid Villena (Constituent People). Meanwhile, Bárbara Sepúlveda was the one who, during the table meeting last Friday, explicitly asked for the invitation to the former presidents and voted that day in favor of reopening the discussion. The only conventional of Vamos por Chile at the table, Hernán Larraín Matte, also did not express his position in recent days and did not answer the query of this medium. https://www.emol.com/noticias/Nacional/2022/06/16/1064239/mesa-convencion-invitacion-expresidentes-ceremonia.html
