[News] Chahin regrets a new arson attack on his family in Curacautín: "There is permanent intimidation"

During the morning of this Thursday, the conventional constituent Fuad Chahin referred to a new arson attack that was registered in the commune of Curacautín, in the Region of La Araucanía, and that left an inn, belonging to his family, completely destroyed. "Fortunately there is no injured person, which is the most important thing, but clearly it is one more attack that is linked to our family," the former president of the Christian Democracy (DC) began lamenting.

In this context, the also former deputy stated in a conversation with Cooperativa that in the area "(there is) a permanent intimidation of a group that we all know who they are, those who act there in Curacautín, who have the luxury of extorting, of threatening ". In detail, according to what Chahin pointed out, it would be a group that came to Curacautín from Ercilla and Teodoro Schmidt "a few years ago, with the process of buying land and they settled there and now they have dedicated an extension strategy territorial, where they want in some way to occupy the entire territory of the commune".

 

 

In that sense, he lamented the situation in the sector, stating that "it is a tourist area that is being killed by tourism."

Likewise, he criticized that "the authorities do not even want to listen to us, I have been asking for an audience for two or three months with the Undersecretary of the Interior (Manuel Monsalve), so that I can go and discuss with him what is happening in Curacautín with different people who have been victims, and the truth is that we haven't even had an answer. It should be remembered that the arson attack was recorded at around 06:00 this Thursday, when -according to preliminary information- when an attack specifically affected the "Piedra de Fuego" restaurant, located in the La Tepa sector, at kilometer 9 of the route that unites Curacautín with Conguillío. In the place, according to what was indicated by the Prosecutor's Office of La Araucanía, a vindication canvas was found against the family of the conventional.
