The South Robbery Brigade of the Investigative Police reported this afternoon the arrest of a sixth person involved in the robbery of a Brinks company securities truck, which occurred in 2020, which concluded with the theft of $1.5 billion. According to the information provided by the police unit, the arrest of the subject was achieved after carrying out a series of inquiries that positioned him as one of the facilitators of information and tools regarding the route that the vehicle in question would have that day, since it was verified that he was a worker of the securities company, in the same period in which the robbery was carried out.

This fact dates back to 2020, when on the outskirts of the Santa Rosa Metro "a robbery was carried out with intimidation on a truck transporting securities from the Brinks company. On that occasion, this specialized brigade carried out the proceedings aimed at clarifying that fact. , achieving the arrest of five people, who were credited with different participation in the event," said Deputy Commissioner Sebastián Orellana, of the South Robbery Brigade. At that time, and according to the PDI, the arrest was achieved "both from the driver who was linked to the gang and from the owner of the address where the coordination meetings and the subsequent transfer of money were held, after committing the crime" , in addition to the arrest of the "gang leader, who was the one who implemented the plan to carry out this crime."

 

 

In that sense, now "it was achieved through new proceedings and also the arrests of the people I just mentioned, to position a new member of the gang who worked, at that time, within the Brinks company as a supervisor ", informed the deputy commissioner. "This person actively participated in the crime, since we managed to position him in coordination meetings prior to the commission of the act and we established that he provided them with the privileged information that the criminals had and, likewise, a key with which the person who got on the truck, managed to open the vault door and, later, enter the cabin where the driver was," he added. Regarding the background on this last detainee, Orellana commented that "he had been working for a couple of years and after the fact he presented medical licenses and left the Brinks company for no reason. That drew attention and reinforced the lines of investigation that we maintained , managing to position him as a member of the gang and (...) an asset investigation was carried out, in which anomalies were detected in his financial movements, which coincided with the dates of the event". According to the data provided by the police, the man was arrested at his home, belonging to the Buin commune "and is currently in preventive detention for this act." Finally, from the Brigade they do not rule out that there are new detainees or other participants in the robbery.
