Her song "Jar of Hearts" rose to prominence in the United States after she appeared on Fox's So You Think You Can Dance television show in 2010, but it was her song "A Thousand Years" that gained worldwide success. Perri moved to Los Angeles, California on her 21st birthday. Later that year, she got married and started producing music videos. She divorced after 18 months and moved back to Philadelphia in late 2009; it was during this time that she wrote "Jar of Hearts". She returned to Los Angeles, becoming a waitress at the Melrose Cafe, where she met a friend who introduced her to a choreographer. He liked the song "Jar of Hearts" so much that he asked if Christina would like to record a professional version of the song. The song "Jar of Hearts" was featured on So You Think You Can Dance on June 30, 2010.
