Ai is the daughter of a Japanese father and a half-Japanese, half-Italian mother. Due to her father's profession, Ai traveled between Los Angeles and Japan. She had a presence as a dancer in Janet Jackson's "Go Deep" music video. She started her career with three singles and a CD released by BMG. In 2003, Ai signed with hip hop label Def Jam Japan, becoming their first female artist.
