At the beginning of this year, Nissan Argentina confirmed that the Navara that is produced at the Santa Isabel plant, and that is marketed there as a frontier, will also reach the markets of Colombia and Chile, which until now are supplied from Aguascalientes, in Mexico. .

The reasons for this change are industrial and have to do with the Nissan NEXT plan, which seeks to "streamline capacity and streamline operations, prioritize core markets and focus on core models and technologies." Until now, the trans-Andean plant was underutilized, producing only for Brazil and Argentina, while the Mexican plant is at full capacity.

However, as Chile and Colombia were Euro 6 emission markets, Santa Isabel had to be refurbished in order to meet the technical requirements of the new markets, including more people and the ability to assemble cleaner engines.

The new Navarra

 

For now, Nissan has just presented the new Frontier/Navara in Argentina, which is the same one that had already been updated globally at the end of 2020 and had been arriving in Chile since the beginning of 2021.

The brand tells us that the different prototypes have traveled different landscapes and territories in Brazil and Argentina in a testing phase of 220 thousand kilometers, with river crossings and winding roads, and temperatures that ranged from -30 to +50 degrees Celsius, and They are ready to go on sale.

"During this entire stretch, Nissan specialists in various disciplines tested durability, sound, fuel consumption, comfort, stability and suspension, among other items," Nissan said in its statement. "The prototypes were manufactured with parts models equal to those that equip the series, which were replicated by local suppliers at a later stage, thus guaranteeing the quality of the final product."

The performance tests carried out during the development stage of the new product consist of chassis tests, which allow specifications to be adjusted, and engine tests, where consumption and CO2 emissions are displayed. In addition, quality tests and specific safety tests are carried out, including the technologies of the Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield package.

As we have learned, the new Navara of Argentine origin will arrive in Chile at the beginning of 2023 and will have a design and specifications similar to the versions currently on sale.
