[Auto] Another one from the Chinese Beetle: the funas arrive through systems that "reify" women

The creative brand of the battery-powered car included a series of "systems for women" that did not go unnoticed.

One of the most unusual launches that the automotive industry experienced in 2021 was that of the ORA Punk Cat, a Chinese vehicle produced by ORA, a sub-brand of Great Wall, and that surprised the world with its appearance, extremely similar to the Volkswagen Beetle. The ORA "Cat" family has also given birth to other models with rather curious names and all appealing to the silhouette of the Beetle or the Beetle for the most modern looking models.

Despite the possible lawsuits that Volkswagen was going to initiate against the Chinese firm, at the end of last year the brand not only released one of the final versions of the Punk Cat, called the Ballet Cat, but also patented the model in Europe and in Brazil.

While we wait for more news about the arrival of the curious vehicle in the region, we learned through Chinese media that ORA announced the inclusion of a series of systems that target the female gender and that are quite striking. Some are even typical of the historical stigmatization of the supposed "weaker sex".

ORA Ballet Cat: Functions for women?

At its launch on the Chinese market, the ORA Ballet Cat was presented as an "elegant car for women", according to the brand itself, which also noted that it has a "friendly configuration" with the female gender. In this sense, and according to what was reported by CarNewsChina, the vehicle includes five rather curious systems:

Warm Man
The Warm Man function ("warm man" in Spanish) is intended to work on those days when women go through their menstrual period. Yes, just as you read. To develop this mode, the brand stated that it worked together with a research team, which inquired about the "physical and psychological needs" of women on these days.

 

 

The result of the analyzes determined that during menstruation they maintain a low body temperature, so, in order to make them feel more comfortable, the Warm Man mode allows the cabin to increase its ambient temperature.

Beyond whether it works or not, it goes without saying that the name is, at least for our culture, misguided.

If the previous mode can be understood as a benefit for women, this one seems to come from the age of the dinosaurs. Assuming that women drive poorly, or find it extremely difficult to take the wheel, the "female driving" function activates a series of assistances, such as automatic cruise control, voice-controlled parking and fatigue warning. Unusual.

child mode
Like the previous one, it is a resource that can be used by both women and men, but the brand directed it towards them. Specifically, it is a function that incorporates a camera into the digital instrument panel that records what happened with a baby or child located in the rear seat.

makeup compartment
To make it complete, the ORA Ballet Cat includes a "secret" compartment, located on the top of the model, to store any type of makeup. Again, we are talking about a functionality that could be used by anyone, and even not just to store makeup. Anyway.

As if only women took selfies, ORA decided that this “feminine” vehicle would have a camera in the passenger compartment. Located on the inside of the A-pillar (at least from what you see in the pictures), it's built into the car's multimedia system, so snapped photos can quickly be posted to any social network.

Finally, ORA highlighted that the car also has a steering wheel that was made especially for women, both in size and design. In this sense, the brand took into account "the width of the shoulders and the size of the palms of the women's hands".
