This Saturday, the Presidential Delegation of the Metropolitan Region, on the recommendations of the Environment Seremi, decreed an Environmental Alert for this Sunday in Greater Santiago, due to the poor ventilation conditions that weigh on the city. "At 09:00 hours on May 28, the Cerrillos Station reached an ICAP 300, with which the Pre-emergency was verified, declared preventively for this Saturday.

The Quilicura, Cerrillos and Parque O'Higgins stations also reached an Environmental Pre-emergency , while the rest of the stations of the Monitoring Network of the Ministry of the Environment reached Environmental Alert levels, except for the Las Condes and Puente Alto stations, which registered regular levels," said a statement.

Throughout this week, the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) reported that the city had poor ventilation conditions, causing an accumulation of pollutants.

 

 

This, added to the usual adverse conditions and human action through the use of firewood, industry and displacement by transport, poor air quality remained.

To date, the Metropolitan Region has one pre-emergency and five Environmental Alerts. Last year, during May, "we had two Alerts and two Environmental Pre-emergencies," the authorities compared. Due to the measure, the Presidential Delegation of the Metropolitan Region made a call not to use wood heaters and to prefer the use of public or shared transport. To comply with the regulations, the Seremi de Medioambiente, together with the different municipalities and Carabineros, will be inspecting different points in Greater Santiago. For its part, the Seremi of Agriculture will do the same with the inspectors SAG and Conaf to maintain the prohibition of agricultural burning.
