The Argentine Eduardo Berizzo has been announced this Thursday as the new coach of Chile by the National Association of Professional Football (ANFP).

Berizzo, who has already directed the Paraguayan national team, replaces the Uruguayan Martín Lasarte, who failed in the objective of qualifying the "Red" for the Qatar World Cup.

The ANFP announced through a statement that Berizzo and his assistants will be presented next week.

The 52-year-old former Argentine soccer player was defined by the president of the ANFP as a "great connoisseur" of Chilean soccer who has "vast national and international experience."

"We wish him the best of luck in this new process, towards the qualifiers and the international commitments we have," added the president of the Chilean federation.

One of the biggest challenges for Chilean football after its elimination from the Qatar World Cup is to promote the renewal of La Roja, which for many years was led by Alexis Sánchez, Arturo Vidal, Gary Medel and Claudio Bravo.

These players led the conquest of two consecutive editions of the Copa América, in 2015 and 2016.
