German auto parts company Bosch is boosting its self-driving division with the acquisition of a software developer.

 

The German company announced that it had acquired the British startup Five, which is headquartered in the English city of Cambridge, and employs about 140 people.

 

The parties did not disclose the purchase price. The deal has yet to be approved by competition authorities.

 

For his part, CEO of "Bosch", Markus Hein, said that autonomous driving should make road traffic safer, adding that the partnership with "Five" will provide customers with "European-made technology."

 

According to Bosch data, Five was founded in 2016 and formed a team of experts in cloud software, robotics and machine learning.

 

This is Bosch's latest move towards reorienting itself towards self-driving vehicles.

 

A few weeks ago, Bosch acquired Atlético, a digital map company.

 

And "Bosch" and "Volkswagen" German cars announced a cooperation agreement to produce self-driving cars, which includes the creation of a software platform that can make highly automated jobs suitable for mass production.
